Below is a list of courses I have taken as an Undergraduate of Japanese at Clemson University and Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies (NUFS).
Japanese Language
In three years of studying Japanese at Univesity level, I have taken over 40 credit hours of Japanese language courses. Below are some course highlights:
JAPN 4060 - Japanese Literature - Covered works of Japanese from Natsume Soseki to Haruki Murakami (Clemson University).
JAPN 3160 - Japanese for International Trade - Taught in Japanese and focused on the difference between American and Japanese business in areas such as hiring, stucture, manners and the interview process (Clemson University).
JAPN 3050 - Intermediate Japanese - Class covered various intermidiate grammar points by focusing on teaching various subject relating to unique aspect of Japanese culture. The final project was a homestay visit where student learned how to cook Japanese food all in Japanese (Clemson University).
JAPN 3680 - Japanese Language Proficiency Test prep course for both N2 and N3 levels (N1 being the highest level and N5 being the lowest) (Clemson University).
Japanese 4 - Intermediate Advanced - This class met four times a week for an hour and half, focusing in correct use of N2 level grammar and aunthentic conversational Japanese (NUFS).
Japanese 3 - Intermediate - Reinforcement of intermediate Japanese grammar and basic conversational situations at native speed (NUFS).
Japanese Linguistics A - A general overview of the Japanese language's unique linguistical chararistics (NUFS).
Japanese Linguistics B - This class was intensively focus on the use, meaning and importance of correct particle usage in Japanese (NUFS).
Japanese Kanji and Vocab 4 - Covered N2 level kanji and compounds for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficienecy exam (NUFS).
Japanese Kanji and Vocab 3 - Covered N3 level kanji and compounds for the JLPT exam (NUFS).
Japanese Kanji and Vocab 2 - Covered N4 level kanji and vocabulary for the JLPT exam (NUFS).
Japanese JLPT Senimar N3 - Focused class on grammar for the N3 JLPT test. This included the passive, causitive, and causitive-passive verb forms in Japanese (NUFS).
JAPN 1010 & 1020 - Elementary Japanese - While both of these course were elementary courses and only the begining of my formal Japanese education, these courses were surprisingly intense (thanks to the late Dr. Williams) and helped me develop a solid foundation in Japanese (Clemson University)
Japanese Culture/Business
Japanese Management A - Focus on an overview of the Japanese Management structure and culture.
Japanese Management B - Focused on the strutuce and impact of small to medium size Japanese business.
Japanese Business B - Studied different case studies of Japanese business that were successful or unsuccessful in overseas markets.
JAPN 4010 - Japanese Society - Covered a wide range of subjects about Japanese culture and how Japanese society has been changing.
Japanese Culture - This course was a general, but useful review of Japanese traditions, expectation and manners.
Japanese Contemporary Literature - This class was an introduction to various contemporary author popular in Japan who offered interesting commentaries on Japanese culture and society.
History of Japanese Literature - From Japanese earliest novel, Tale of Genji to the work of Natsume Soseki, this class covered the major themes and stylings throughtout Japanese literary history.
Nagasaki Fieldwork - Nagasaki is a unique mix of various cultures and religion. It had one of the largest collections of hidden Christians. Our group had the prilividge of meeting one of the last practicing hidden Christians in the area north of Nagasaki, Sotome.
HIST 3330 - Modern History of Japan - This class covered the times from the Meiji Revolution or present Japan.
History of Japan - This class focused primary on ancient Japan (Jomon periond) to the civil war period (Sengoku).
Other cultural coursework
CHIN 4010 - Pre-modern Chinese Literature - The class covered the different uses of literature in early China, that include philosphical, historic and legends.
REL 3170 - Chinese Buddhism - An indepth look into the evolution of Buddhism in China from India and the different schools of thought.
PHIL - 3120 - Philosophy of Ancient China - This class studied into the philosophies of the main philosophic styles of Confucious to Chuang Tzu.
